50 Random Facts - Updated for 2025
It’s been nearly 4 years since I blogged 50 Random Facts about myself, and I think it’s time to update this list.
There I was, just living my best life, and boom — entropy. I’ll (still) be turning 50 very soon. How is this even possible? To celebrate surviving a half century I’m listing 50 things about me in no particular order.
My grandson calls me Gaga. (I have 3 grandkids now, and they still call me Gaga)

I have C-PTSD.
I was on Divorce Court in 2004.
I create weird art.
I love Halloween and Christmas.
I have multiple Star Trek tattoos.
I have worked in my school district for over 10 years. (Still)
I have 3 grown ass kids that are good people. 💙
I died at 17, and then spent a long time on life support in a coma.
I lost my son at 17.
I dropped out of high school at 17. (That’s a lot for 1 year.)
I started college at 30.
I wrote an Amazon bestseller.
My first trilogy is about Mary Queen of Scots being a vampire.
I took a semester of guitar and 4 total years of Spanish, and can do neither muy bueno.
My brain is filled with tiny snippets of random songs and tunes that often come out for no reason whatsoever. (1-800-EMPIRE, radio gets results)
I have made some terrible decisions in my life, but marrying my first husband wasn’t one of them.
I love The Sims.
I am a Fangirl. Which means that I’m often hyper-obsessed about something. (It’s currently Taylor Swift)
I know my editor — in the biblical sense.
All of my kids live within walking distance.
I work in an elementary Life Skills Special Education classroom. (High School behaviors room)
I’m a progressive.
I love full moons.
I vacuum too much.
At 21 I got the courage to file charges against my rapist, and he served 15 years in prison.
I finished my first novel at 44.
I like Donald Glover way more than is acceptable for a 50 year old married lady. (Still)
I overextend myself.
I have trouble saying no to people.
I do random diy projects in my house/yard.
I cannot —- CANNOT —- be late. Sometimes I show up hours early to work, concerts, events, listening to Obama speak, etc.
I liked Twilight and Harry Potter. (No TERFs tho)
I give up on things if they get too hard — sometimes.
I didn’t get to go to NYC twice this year.
I’m an atheisht.
I didn’t learn to read until 3rd grade.
I went to 6 schools before 3rd grade.
I own a lot of URLs. Phyllisyork.com for instance.
My favorite non- alliterative food is cake.
My favorite non-cake food is Mangos in May in Mexico.
I struggle with depression sometimes.
I’m an optimist.
I’m forbidden to rap.
I have insomnia.
I love traveling.
I love adventures.
I love my family.
I love making lists.
